Jane's Cake Station
265 Jalan Kayu

Even though Mother Day’s is a week away, our family decided to celebrate it earlier. Since I was working, I had to miss the event at my grandma’s house. But upon my request, my aunt agreed to order the cakes from Jane’s Cake Station which I have been wanting to try.

The Durian Mousse Cake ($38 for approximately 1kg) looks very pretty. Since I don’t eat durian, I can’t comment on the taste.

There are conflicting comments though. My mom, being a durian’s fan, thinks it tastes really good but my aunt says that the durian pulp is not thick enough and the cream covers the fragrance of the durian.

The Chocolate Fudge Cake ($30 for approximately 1kg) is the one I wanted to try. Don’t be fooled by the dark, heavy and decadent appearance. This cake is very light and not cloyingly sweet.

Even though I had it for breakfast the next day, the cake was still moist and just melted in my mouth. Yoke Yee also agrees it’s nice! The cream was a nuisance though. I had to scrap it away before enjoying the sinfully rich cake.

Note: The photos are taken by my mom on my behalf. They started cutting the cake when my mom arrived so that’s why the cake you see is not whole.

An advance happy mother's day to my mom and grandma! I love you.

In ancient Greek mythology, sirens are creatures which have the body of a bird and the head of a woman. They have such sweet voices that sailors who heard their songs were lured into grounding their boats on the rocks on which the nymphs sang.

To me, food are like the sirens in so many ways. Intoxicating, wonderful, beautiful and yet, so very deadly if you let them get the better of you. Food is a big part of my life and it’s meant to be appreciated and savored slowly. I admit that I am extremely particular about what I eat. If it’s not something I want to put in my body, I’d rather not eat. Some people eat to live while others live to eat. I’ve yet to discover which side of the camp I’m in… What about you?

I hope that you will enjoy reading about my food adventures as much as I like writing them. And many thanks to my family and friends who always wait patiently for me to take photos before digging in!
